Day 5

had to wake up at 0645 cos we've got a 0833 train to catch. breakfast at dormy inn was terrific as usual. they had really good prawn croquette and unsweetened yoghurt. very healthy. i loved the veggie juice but cldnt stay longer for seconds cos we were kinda in a rush.

took the train down to aso. had to get on another bus to reach the ropeway station. there was this hongkie family with 2 young boys who were making a din. and the hongkie mother was very rude and irritating as well. ppl like tt make travelling very painful. esp since they were on our bus. the ropeway was closed for maintenance so we had to take a separate minibus up. the hongkie family were on that bus too. urgh.

but once we got up to the crater, we forgot abt them. the view was terrific and thank God the crater wasnt spewing dangerous fumes. there were indicators and it just happened tt today, the crater was behaving so they could admit visitors. we took plenty of photos and since i was using the vivitar, tobias got really trigger happy on my canon ixus, shooting every single imaginable picturesque scene he could find. we decided to walk down to the ropeway station and skip the bus ride so we cld enjoy more of the scenery. it was really nice and thank God for the good weather. pretty pictures coming soon.

we did alot of exercise too. not the morning ab work + push ups + sit ups we do. today, there was alot of jumping. inspired by ritchie and his shangri-la photos, i decided to do the same. u'd have the privilege to see lots of unglam photos of the pre-jump and post-jump state. of course, there were really good ones too. lots of fun doing tt really. if only i cld jump higher.

took the train back to kumamoto and discovered tt tobias was sunburnt. rushed to get calming lotion frm the crazy sign popping out frm every corner drugstore. i think im abit burnt too. so must really watch it for the nxt few days. it will be super uber ugly if we start to peel. eek!

nxt leg of the day, we went down to kumamoto castle and entered for 500Y. tobias was a little dissatisfied cos it was too modern, much akin to a museum. the interiors of the main castle tower was air-conditioned and renovated to house artifacts. i personally prefered himeji castle, which we visited last yr too. but it was a pleasant trip still. walking around is really good exercise. not to mention the stair-master exercise u get frm climbing those really steep steps. i have no idea how the soldiers avoided tripping to falling to their deaths.

went to some nice restaurant for dinner upon the hotel front desk staff's recommendation. was slightly put off at first cos the entrance was really posh. as u know, we're poor travelling folks who cannot afford to spend much on meals. but when we went in to check the menu, was pleasantly surprised to find tt it was pretty much within our budget so we settled on tai-pin noodle and champon. even though the ingredients were pretty much chinese, the dishes were very different in flavour. very much worth it.

walked around and decided to get gladiator sandals cos i look retarded wearing a dress with nike sports shoes. u cannot imagine the stares i've receieved. and i'm getting enough bcos i only have eyeliner and mascara on and not the full gear. ohwell. its hard surviving here man.

decided to get cream puffs frm beard papa. they were having 6 for 995Y promo. includes 2 normal, 2 cookie puffs and 2 peach puffs. this is sth not introduced in singapore. peach puffs do not come with the normal cream puff filling. they have fruit pieces in addition to the cream. must be really delicious. will review after digging in.

what pleased me more was the generosity of beard papa japan. the guy at the counter pumped twice into the puff first then let the cream consolidate inside (presumably to make more space) before pumping in the THIRD time. seriously. where in the world can u find puffs overflowing with cream except in japan? my eyes are dying frm dryness and i badly need to remove my makeup before going for a dip in the hotel's hot spring. more updates and photos the day after when we get back to hakata!!
