Day 23

i know this is abit outdated. we kinda realised how little time we have left toward the end so didnt bother to blog. had to soak in whatevers left.

so. anyhows. this is the day we went Matsushima for one of Japan's three famous sights. it was quite a long journey there involving local train cos the rapid ones didnt run due to the recent earthquake. the weather forecast wasnt too optimistic so once we reached, we decided to head for the observatory which required a hill climb.

the bf carried my bag too for fear of the return of the knee pain. he stopped in the middle of a green field with forest trees at the back and explodes into his bird-calling song per enchanted. i warned him abt attracting bees instead.

we soon reach the observatory. which was really deserted. the view was great. all the mini islands in the sea unique to Japan's landscape. snapped pictures and he insisted on doing his huo4 yuan2 jia3 pose (yet again) so i had to accomodate. strolled around abit more before deciding to head down to get onto mini islands itself.

there was a little shrine on island #1 (i will fill in the name when i know it) and we did the monk/nun poses tt we did last yr. if any of the japs realise what we're doing they'd probably drown us alive.

walked to island #2 which requires u to cross a pretty long red bridge before reaching it. discovered admission was chargeable so we took pictures in front of the bridge and island before leaving. saw many many many seagulls resting. they'd chase after cruise boats tt depart frm the terminal cos the tourists always feed them frm the boats.

was hungry but decided lunch at such a touristy spot would not be worth it. walked miles to reach the only convenience stall on the island and grabbed ice cream + drink. the weather was sweltering hot i tell u. travelled back to sendai station hoping to get suggestions on where to go frm the friendly tourist information counter lady.

had lunch at triangle, the spaghetti place recommended by friendly tic lady. decided to go for the set lunch cos it was so worth it. they first served us our drinks and a platter containing salad, yoghurt and a bun. i was really wondering why yoghurt but polished everything up anyway (too hungry). we later realised the yoghurt should be saved for after meal and the bun is for us to go with the soup. haha~

the spaghetti is like nothing we've ever eaten. its spaghetti in soup which makes it really special. and the soup is not just some random soup. they really broil mushroom (or whatever the ingredient) so the flavour really floods the broth. tastes super yummy together with the tangy spaghetti. and we were impressed cos both our spaghettis had different soup bases. plus i had a whole heap of mentai on top. deliciousss. toward the end i was trying to drink up all the soup tt had bits of mentai in it. typing this out now is making me salivate like crazy! ugh!

completely satisfied, we trooped to tic to ask abt where we can go to with less than 4hrs to spare. nice lady suggested this place tt requires u to climb a thousand steps and pay 1000Y admission to see shrines and temples. of course i had little interest. in the end we decided to take shinkansen down to Fukushima.

went to their tic but the lady cldnt speak english so he had to communicate through the phone to some third party and the third party would translate and give instructions to the lady at the counter. they suggested we go fruit picking. but travelling there is going to take ages. and cost alot. and we're only going to pick peaches for half an hour. and its not very cheap. so we decided not to. plus the weather didnt look good. in fact, it started drizzling soon after.

but it wasnt at all a wasted trip cos we did buy some stuffs at the 100Y shop at the station. also chanced upon a drugstore which had THE CHEAPEST meiji collagen i have ever seen. the lowest it ever went in kyushu/hokkaido was 1980Y but this place was selling it at 1880Y. whats even better is, for every 2 packs u buy, each would only cost 1780Y. tt is freaking cheap! when its gng for like more than S$45 man! im getting it at less than half price. and so. i GRABBED. 6 packs in all. could have done better i know. but the poor bf will be lugging it so lets be kind.

there was some major problem with their credit card machine and in the end we had to pay more than 10,000Y in CASH. which severely depleted our money resources. ohwell. but it was hell of a good buy man. caught the double decker max train back and found a poor OL sleeping on my seat. we stood around awkwardly until she sensed our presence, woke up, apologised and went back to her original (presumably) seat.

back at sendai we decided to chiong desserts bcos we'd be eating 7-11 food for dinner (sad). had a classic cheese stick which was good. there were ppl queuing up and buying a whole box of it (1500Y). but the best discovery was the strawberry daifuko. which was the bestest best dessert i have eaten in this journey. i hereby declare it dessert of the trip. for 189Y u get an orgasmic experience - mochi wrapping with strawberry cream, strawberry fruit/jam and sponge cake inside. it was so freaking good we went back the nxt day and got a box of 4.

while walking back to dormy inn, we passed by an unofficial bicycle parking lot and there was this kawaii doggie sitting very patiently atop a bike! presumably waiting for its owner to finish running errands. but it was really really obedient. wasnt even on a leash. it attracted alot of attention, of course. such a kawaii doggie deserves it. sometimes it would get bored/curious and look at passers-by as they walk past but nv once did it leave its position. how much training must tt take man!

and of course we ended with a 7-11 dinner, which in retrospect we wldnt mind if only we were back in sendai NOW, and a good soak in the onsen. last day to enjoy it before hitting tokyo.
